Blog hop: Books that are hard to find

Blog Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Coffee Addition Writer.

Is there a hard-to-find first-edition that you would love to own? If so, why? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Answer: No I don’t want any hard to find first editions. I have some books that are said to be hard to find. I am not 100% I will show you some books and authors that for me are hard to find at a used sale.

Dr. Rat by William Kotzwinkle – A lab rat is a psychologist because he insane. He interview other animals in the lab. This is a very dark and twisted book. I like dark humor and I couldn’t half way through this book. I find a copy at a yard sale and I still have it. I have heard that this book is hard to find and I have never seen another copy of this book anywhere.

The Chronical of Amber series by Roger Zelazny – Anything by Zelazny is hard to find. I been hearing that you has to buy the big omnibus in order to read the whole series. I must of gotten lucky because I have the book edition of the first five books and for some reason I have book eight. So I don’t have the whole series but, I’m getting there.

The Unicorn Chronicles by Bruce Coville – This series is so hard to find and I don’t know why. I have all the books now. For the longest time I couldn’t find book 2. I manage to stumble upon all the other books.

Charles William – a member of the Inklings and friends with Tolkien and Lewis. I don’t Charles William’s books are so hard to find. The only way I can get these book is if I order them online.

Clare Bell – It weird how Clare Bell’s books are deem classics and then the books went out of print well the author is still alive. Only now are the books being re-printed. Check out The Named series, it about pre-historic cats that have human like intelligence. One day one of them came across and un-named that can talk.

Tanith Lee – I got lucky and find a bunch of her books. Now I can’t find any books by Tanith Lee. I have heard that hard to find. Has anyone read The Black Unicorn? or Tales from the Flat Earth Trilogy?

Again I don’t know how rare these books are. I know the books and authors I mention are not talk about by a lot of people.

The book I will be sharing the first line from The Prince who Fell from the Sky by John Claude Bemis. It a middle grade book that take place in a post-apocalypse world where all the humans have gone up into space. The story is told from the animal prospective and it done really well.

First line

The Forest was green with summer when the bear lumbered up from the creek bed where she had been cooling off.

From page 56

“He doesn’t understand Vorago.” Dumpster said.

“I know he doesn’t”, she grunted through her clenched jaws. As the child began to come toward her, she added, “But it seems he understands food.”

Dumpster trotted beside her, “I told you he would.”

I like how the animals see the human boy as how we see animals. If you have young kids that might be interested in this book then give it a read.

In case you want more info on this book. I go into more detail about it in my non-spoiler review.

  1. My first line this week comes from Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goddard:
Her world was spinning out of control. Correction. Not her world but her body.

  2. I don’t have any books that are hard to find that I’m looking for. Nor am I after any first edition books. The Prince who Fell from the Sky looks really good.

  3. I am currently reading The Bachelor and the Bride by Sarah M. Eden. It’s really good.
“In recent years, in the area of London near Belsize Park, a young physician by the name of Sefton Palmer established himself as a reliable man of medicine and an individual of inquisitive disposition.”
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Yeah, I’m not one for first editions, either. And I’ve never seen those books before, so there’s another degree of hard to find 2nd hand! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
